Carlsen on 60 Minutes

Earlier this year, world number one  Magnus Carlsen was featured on CBS 60 minutes program. A very well produced documentary and Carlsen speaks perfect English.

Some highlights
- the host talking to some children playing chess (around 5:13) "I'm getting the hang of playing grown-ups"!
- playing Kasparov at 13 years old. Kasparov gives his famous head shake (around 8:01)
- comments from his father (around 10:25)
- thoughts on Fischer (around 11:33)

See how incredible it can be for the world best player to have a father who don't know how to play chess but can be his coach?

His coach is a GM and IM, our madman thinks he is a coach, pity his son who is really mediocre anyway

Henrik carlsen is a chess player with a fide rating

While that may be true, if you read about Magnus Carlsen, the father played a role no different from being a mind coach. The less important techincal aspect was left for some other GM to take care of.

Dear respected IM Jimmy,

Good day to you.

We refer to another Malaysian chess blog hosted by Peter Long. His latest posting seems to be airing Singapore's dirty linen in public ?

We were given to understand that Peter may have other documented cases and that he may post them one by one.

How can we get to better understand his intention / purpose please ?

From a group of very concerned chess players, parents, and organizers

Why ask Jimmy about this? You can go direct to the source, Peter, and ask him. I am sure he will respond unlike some other bloggers who practice intense censorship.

Can you help ?

I think Peter has disabled anonymous postings due to bad experiences.

So best to come clean and say who you are :-)

Hi Mr John,

We are a group of chess players, parents and organizers.

We wish that our chess players can play in a good climate, so we are naturally concerned to see such postings and even more worried when we were given to understand that more postings along the same vein may surface especially as they are posted out of Singapore.

We respect John as a chess organizer in Singapore and hopes he can assist to investigate such incidents.

Hi Mr John,

We tried to make this a Singapore matter, but found that we also cannot post on your blog ?

What is the big deal anyway? Mr Leong is just human. He wanted to make a profit and wanted more capital and took money as investment to boost profits. It didn't work out. He found it only took 2 years to return back the invested money. That's all. Doesn't reflect badly on his character. At least not worse than most capitalist chinese we know. And remember he did eventually return the money. It's not as if he cheated and ran away with the money. Nothing wrong with Limono publicly telling everyone. At least there is caution now to lend money to Mr Leong based on that history. So, "concerned group", please pray tell what you are so concerned about?

Dear concerned group,

I have opened up the comments to allow anonymous postings but mainly on this topic. Please post further comments on my blog.

This is a Singaporean matter.

Bad enough to wash dirty linen in foreign country, let alone airing it!

Hi everyone,

After this posting, let everyone use Mr John's blog as this is a Sungapore matter.

The concern is that Mr Leong may have more than just Mr Handjojo case, that he used his office bearings to impress to ask for investors, that he did nor intend to pay up (remember Mr Handhojo asking some senior guy), that Mr Leong's cheques were not honored, etc etc

Will this case be just the tip of the iceberg ?
Will Mr Peter post other cases one by one, each one more damaging and revealing ?

The concern is what is Mr Peter's intent ?
After his posting cause some discomfort, Mr Peter had put up a disclaimer now. Why ?

On this Handjojo matter, please take it to John Wong's blog. This has nothing to do with me. Future comments on this matter will be deleted.
