MCF, where are their titles ?

At the Istanbul Olympiad last September, three of our players fulfilled the requirements for titles. They are Lim Zhuo Ren for FIDE Master, Camilia Johari for Women FIDE Master and Tan Li Ting for Women Candidate Master.

The latest list (March 2013) still does not reflect their titles. See below.

Titles which are earned at special tournaments like the Olympiads are automatically registered by the FIDE President. So what is happening? I checked some of the other players who also achieved the FM title at the Istanbul Olympiad and they reflect the title besides their names. Except for our players.

Below is an example of how the player card shows titles which are registered by the President.
Why is it that the Malaysian Chess Federation, which should look after the interests of all Malaysian chess community/players, is not even aware of this (its already five months since Olympiad)? Or is it because some required fees for title registration were not paid?

Do they serve the chess community or do they serve their own interests? Where is MCF taking us? What are their plans to develop Malaysian chess? Or the MCF officials have no clue?

In the coming election this Sunday, I hope the state delegates vote wisely, who will best serve the chess community and players.

You genuinely care. Strongly agree! You should be working for MCF for a salary. Please someone sponsor to pay for these titles. Even borrow money is ok.

What is the average rating of the state delegates?

I think that chess should do away with titles because seriously it doesn't mean much. If you are good, you are good, it won't matter if you are a FM/IM/GM. A rating is more than enough to tell whether you are good or bad. I mean in other games or sport like tennis, badminton, snooker etc, there isn't a need for titles. People get so hyped up with securing a title.

Sometimes titles can also be an embarrassment. For example a FM is generally regarded to be at the level of 2300, whereas an IM is about 2400, and finally a GM is at 2500. So imagine when someone who is titled but falls very much below these thresholds.

Cant agree more but since they won the titles in one good tournament performance MCF should also at least try to secure that for them.
MCF is actually malfunctioning for years but a president who has absolutely not interested in chess is running again with so many monkeys busily campaigning for him. He will likely win again and the whole chess community can cry your heart out because most delegates dont care much except to secure positions for themselves in exchange for votes.

So sad, so true

Titles are surely not embarrassment.FM is no more generally regarded to be at the level of 2300, only among old-timers who don't know new rules from ten, twenty years or so ago. Title tournaments make a lot of profit for some organisers, so they would complain if abolished. People who invented titles still rule the chess world, they would lose face if no more titles. Players are hypnotized by getting a title, because it stays for life. Strange is that everything changed, but no new titles to compensate. Please correct me if I am in the wrong.

Chess without GM is like Tae Kwan Do without black belt...how boring!

By the way, Jimmy...'naughty adds' you had there below! :)

Jimmy Liew said...

What naughty ads? Ads are not within my control you know.

maybe half of todays gms dont make im norm, go check any big open tournaments results. gm is difficult to understand what it factually means and what a gm wants.

There are weak GMs and strong IMs. There are also strong GMs and weak IMs. According to Fide ratings and not personal opinion.

and the secretary is ..........?

Jimmy Liew said...

Secretary is appointed later by President. Dont ask why like that, its like that.

So that means the Secretary, Assistant Secretary and the Treasurer will be appointed by the President? Rather strange procedures here. This is permitted according to the constitution?

So who will the President likely appoint? Gregory? Peter? With Edmund Santhara in the mix, he would probably want his own guy in.

Horse trading ...........

Couldn't care less who wins as long as we get our first GM in next 12-16 months.

Before 1990, the Secretary and Treasurer's posts were voted by the delegates but that was changed. For most part of it, if the Treasurer and the Secretary do not see eye to eye with the President, life would be very difficult. Hence, the term "All The President's Men" - just like the movie....

And to get a GM in 12 to 16 months is a HUGE challenge. It will probably take 2 years at the very least and the player going for the title must play at least one international game every 1-2 months (and score in the upper bracket) to achieve the feat.

Jimmy.... Its Mr Yeap as in Eng Chiam's father (not Yap). I believe the other person in the Committee is from Perak - Kamaruzzaman??? For the VP, the 3rd post is usually reserved for someone from Sabah or Sarawak.

The million dollar question is...... who will be the secretary? There are a few capable people in the current committee i.e. Nik, Yeap and Tse Pin, who can fill in the post but, whether they want it or not, is a different question altogether.

So could it be now?

I think it will be Greg.

If the accounts are in a mess as Raymond Siew puts it, I doubt anyone would want to even touch it with a ten foot pole.

Jimmy Liew said...

Who still believes Raymond Siew??

Anonymous said...

It has more than a grain of truth, don't you think so?

Anonymous said...

The document that RS undiscreetly shown to all that it was from Zuhri's camp probably cause Zuhri a few votes.

Jimmy Liew said...

Apparently the accounts are just fine, otherwise there would have been a lot of noise at the AGM, dont you think so?

To have Raymond Siew campaigning for you is political suicide.

Jimmy, no offence to you,but there seems a lot you missed. A police report?????

Jimmy Liew said...

Didnt miss anything. Anybody can claim anything on internet. All I saw is a Facebook posting and a picture of somebody standing in front of a police station. I'm only interested in facts not claims.
somebody told me Zhuri is intending to file a lawsuit too. Again it is not verifiable.

Of course nothing is proven until there is a guilty verdict. But still, all these allegations doesn't really help MCF's cause. We shall have to wait and see how this plays out. In the meantime, we do hope that the new committee can quickly come on board and work. Again the President should immediately who are his Secretary, Asst. Secretary & Treasurer are. In fact he should have announced it immediately after the election to placate any doubt and that he knows who he wants in his team.

Who are the new auditors? No mention again

Anyone who wants the post must have his head examined.
