Doeberl Cup ends, next stop KL Open

The Australian 2010 Doeberl Cup is ending today (5th April) . After eight rounds, a familiar face to Malaysians is leading the tournament a full point ahead. This is none other than Chinese GM Li Chao. He has seven points from eight rounds. His nearest rivals all have six points - Vladimir  Malaniuk,  local boys George Xie and David Smerdon, Indian grandmasters Panchanathan Magesh Chandran.

In the ninth round, Li wrapped up the tournament with a draw against Malaniuk. George Xie has an excellent tournament by defeating Panchanathan in the last round. He may have made a grandmaster norm with his 7/9 score.

The next major open will be our own 2010 KL Open which starts tomorrow with the opening ceremony at 4:00 PM. The first round begins on Wednesday 7th April at 9:00 AM.
