Back to winning in round five

We are back to winning ways in round five against a weaker Surinam team.

Yeoh Li Tian was the first to finish taking a little over two hours to win his first game in style, over-powering his opponent.

15. Nxe7! Kh8

The knight cannot be taken as white will win back the piece. 15....Qxe7 16. exf6 and the discovered attack on the black queen will be deadly.

16. exf6 Nxf6 17. Nxc8 Qxc8 18. dxc5 dxc5 19. Bc4 Nh5 20. Re7 Rb8 21. Ne5 Bxe5 22 Rxd5 Qc7 23. Qe1  Ng7 24 Re7 Qb6 25. b3 a5 26. Rxa5 Qb4 27. Bd2 Qb6 28. Bc3 Qd6 29 R4a7 1-0

On first board, IM Yee Weng got into trouble and I was thought he could be lost. Which meant that Zhuo Ren or myself had to win our game. At that stage I was in a spot of trouble myself and Zhuo Ren was not winning yet.

Suddenly I saw Yee Weng signing his score-sheet. I did not expect him to end his game that soon. But there was good news, his opponent offered a draw! So we only needed another one point to win the match.

My opponent did not play accurately and I gained the upper hand in the ending. At this time , Zhuo Ren held a superior ending with an extra pawn. I made a repetition to draw my game to draw. On seeing this, Zhuo Ren's opponent tried to play for the win.

 51...Nxb3 52. axb3 a4 53. d6!

Clears the diagonal for the bishop to stop the black pawn

53...cxd6 54. bxa4 Kf6

54....b3 55. Bf7 b2 56. Ba2 stops the pawn

55. Be8 black resigns.

Thus we scored 3-1 against our fifth round opponents. In the sixth round, we meet Tunisia.
