Let sleeping dogs lie

There is a saying -  let sleeping dogs lie

It means to leave situations as they are; rather than re-starting old arguments.

This saying must have been created by a dog owner, as a dog owner I can tell you how true this is. My dog will just lie down on the living room floor blocking the way. If I approach her, she pretends not to notice me. I have to step around her. She is not getting up for anyone.

I'll like to change this saying slightly in respect of a certain someone-we-are-loath-to-name.
