This year's National Juniors for boys and girls are currently going on in Sabah. Despite it being the last round today, there has been zero coverage of this so called prestigious event.
The top seed in both events so out-rated their opposition that they will be the over-whelming favourite to win. Nithyalakshmi Sivanesan and her brother Subramaniam Sivanesan are leading and barring a last round loss are likely to be the champions. If this happens this could be a first for siblings to win both the boys and girls championship.

no coverage due to no quality and low turn up.....MCF should abolish national junior events in future....MCF officilas are more than participants!!!!!New NM and NWM lost and drew with low rated players in this tournament...how are they going to beat higher rated players in international tournaments? MCF...pls answer!!!!ooppsss..MCF=Malaysian Charkueyteow federation....
I can confirm that MCF did not inform KLCA about this event... then again since when do they bother with their members?
Please don't bash the players. It's normal to not win every single game. It's simply what we call being human. About whether they can do well against stronger international opposition, Nithya did draw with a GM in this year's Malaysia Open. So there. It's okay to have your own opinion about MCF but why talk down the players who have done nothing but play in this tournament?
Peter, surely Eric Cheah must have been a top 10 player during his time in Malaysia, he was way before the times of Mas, Nicholas Chan and the young one. Though yourself, Jimmy, Christie Hon and Francis Chin could arguably be considered the top 4 then, I can't see how and why Eric can't come immediately after that.
Anonymous, where are you going with this Eric comment?
A lot of coverage in the Sabah Chess Association's official facebook page though...
Having a National Junior is definitely better than not having one. Surely this is a recent MCF improvement. Kudos to whoever came up with this junior tourney.
Enough MCF bashing. Gregory Lau must be commended to give every state a chance to hold the Nat Juniors. Enough giving it to favourite states like States like KL and Selangor every year. Sabah first time hold this so expected got some short comings. Chess will grow now that far away state like Sabah can hold popular jiunior event like Nat Junior.
People like Anon 11:12 AM is dangerous to Malaysian chess. If he in MCF, then no more National Closed because he say nat closed is weak because Mas, Mok dont play. Next, National age-group also cancell because it is waek because li tian dont play. Then everybady dont go to World age-group and dont go olimpiad because Malaysian reps so weak and cannot win medal. Finally MCF also cancell and bubar because commitee members weak and useless for 40 years. This kind of people must not be enter into MCF again.
Dear all Anons....Mas n MOk are not juniors....juniors are like shreyes...darrel yap...elgin Lim...Lik zang...Yinn loong...faqiq....and many more...Li tian is above junior level....MCF can organize the national Junior anywhere...no problem..but MCF have to make sure that every state associations send their 3 best players for the event under state sponsorship....Bravo and Syabas to Mr.Sivanesan...sending his Kids so far with own hardwork....no matter own money or own sponsorship...but how many can secure sponsorship or come up with own pocket money? What is state associations part in promoting chess? Natioan event is a event represented by every state.....send by state associations....but here....parents need to register n send by own effort....if every state send in their best 3 players...then we can have very strong competition and the BEST will win.....look and think forward Mr.Anon 11.18....Mr.Anon 6.38.....Mr.Anon 11.12..................Mr.Peter Long...Pls help MCF.....
I have known Eric since he was 13 and he was my main rival during MSSM days. We had a clear No. 1 and 2 for many years - the two who tried to make it professionally and become our first IM. Later Joseph Toh tried too. There were many other players of about the same level, probably because they were not so consistent and arguably ranked 6th-15th depending on when and Eric was amongst them when he was active. I especially remember Mohd Noor Yahya, Ghalam Sani, Norazmi Mohd Noor, even Ahmad Muzaffar. There was also Goh Yoon Wah, Chan Swee Loon and Tay Chong Thai, even Woo Beng Keong. Then how about others from Penang like Chuah Heng Meng, Choong Yit Chuan and Ooi Chern Ee? And the likes of Ng Ek Leong, Adrian Wong and Wong Zi Jing?
