Can expect too much from this team, consider a good performance if can finisehed above its seeding.

Target for 2014 team is higher place than 2008 Malaysian team, which got Mas, Mok, LYW and Jimmy on 1st 4 boards.

This is a unique team since previously experience players outnumbered olympiad new bies....this time around newbies outnumbered experience 4 to 1 !

Who knows this might work...as they say you cannot expect to get the difference results by keep doing the same things.

Good luck and all the best to solid lyw, very reliable at, hardworking fys, squeezer fn and last but not least aggressive ss.

The malaysian stories from last olympiad are mok's amazing almost a gm run...which include a win against gm loek v w...and not to be outdone is his student, lzr, amazing im run...

What will be the stories for this year?

Stories??? What a weak lineup this is. No chance for stories. Malaysian chess has been on such a downhill slope, we'll be lucky if they even meet expectations. MARK my words...

Weak or not, be a sport and support them. That's what Malaysians do. Jeez...

What happened to Li Tian? Got to go to school? Good for sumant. Anyway doesn't matter whether they are weak or not. So long as they qualified on merit.

whatever it is...msian players are training on their own expenses..so..nobody should question about their achievement in tromso. They are our best players available at the moment. MCF didnt send them training nor bringing GM for the team preparation. So..Msian players...do your best. There are no training programme plan for any malaysian players before going to overseas. MCF just a administration association ( means that MCF will register the players with the overseas organizers)...nothing else....

Any visa problems entering Norway? Lots of countries now facing problems according to FIDE President's letter.

Players are required to take a bus trip 1 hr. each way everyday from hotel to near playing hall for lunch! They have to leave at 10.30am and return late in the evening after dinner. Sounds tough and tiring.

The Tromsø Chess Olympiad organisers have today written to FIDE to confirm their decision that teams that missed the 1st June deadline to submit their team line-ups will not be able to take part in the Olympiad. Did Malaysia comply given the selection issues?

Tan Sri is voting for K so no problem even if submitting the team list today.

Across the causeway little man Leong submitted their team lust early but guess what? They did not inform their chess fraternity of the selected team - players are selected based on?

1 hr to travel from hotel to tournament venue? what the hell MCF doing? MCF should take care the welfare of the players. MCF should find the nearest venue if the organizer allocated quit far...Ramli ngah talib...pls resign ya...you cant lead the MCF well. Pity of Malaysian players...guys...whether you guys win or lose...you guys are still hero of malaysia....play your best game....forget about MCF....Malaysia Cencalok Federation!!!

No offense but why is this years team unusually weak? None of the top players are participating.

Dear Anon 24th July 12:59am..... this team are strong based on their achievements.Furthermore...they have to use their own pocket money to travel and have to pay MCF (Malaysian Cencalok Federation...as per anon's 18th july 9:15am comment) admin fee.....All players prepare by themself. Pls ask your superb MCF president did he bring in GM for the team preparation?Normally in Malaysia...any sports association's presidential will be held by former politicians..WHY? are they really love sports? why sports associations does not choose from wealthy or businessman's to be presidents? they will be right person to draw a plan to upgrade the sports in Malaysia. politicians will be politicians forever......

Anon above,

Either you are too old to remember or too young to know, MCF President for past 2 to 3 decades was a rich patron who spent much money on chess with too little returns. He was instrumental in Jimmy Liew's achievement of the IM title as well as Christie Hon's FM title. Perhaps he was so disillusioned with Malaysians' approach to chess that he sponsored the Chinese (from China) and aided them to their current chess achievement.
